Most of Marguerite Henry's horse books are chapter books, however she did write a few shorter ones. This is my favorite of her picture books.
It's difficult in a short book to develop a very strong story, but Henry does a great job with Five O'Clock Charlie. The story has a wonderful message, and the illustrations are beautiful.
At 28, Charlie is considered too old to work on the farm any longer. However, he doesn't feel old and is bored with his retirement. Charlie discovers there is something he can do.
